The Great North Gravel Ride & Crank the Kanc Uphill TT—dialing in nutrition

Two great events! One big challenge! FUEL!

This past weekend was all about on the bike and event nutrition! Coach Bart worked with a couple PROthirteen athletes, including two-time National Champion Lizzy Gunsalus, on how much fuel they would need to rock out Anthem Sports Great North Gravel 75-mile gravel ride in Cambridge NY.

For the Great North we prepared our nutrition plan using Fuel the Core, a PROthirteen Sponsor.

Fuel the Core is an online platform that allows athletes to analyze their nutrition needs based on event demands, an athlete’s unique physiology, and even event-day weather! An athlete can use their favorite drinks, gels and bars—while refining nutrition plans and learning how nutrition improves performance.

Fuel the Core gave us an outline of what to eat and when. At the end of the ride, Lizzy felt great! Breakthrough ride! She was surprised how she felt when she ate correctly! She ate approximately 55 grams of carbs an hour which is almost twice the number she would have normally eaten for this distance.

💥💥PODIUM ALERT💥💥

PROthirteen athlete Jitka Borowick of Nové Yoga placed second in her age group (7th overall female) in the Crank the Kanc Uphill TT! To get her ready for this event—we prepared a Fuel the Core strategy and Best Bike Split to help her set a pace to hit the numbers she wanted to hit!

Congratulations all! Moving forward!
